Title: Acta Non Verba [Link to story on AO3]
Fandom: The Musketeers, BBC
Author: gaelicspirit
Characters: d’Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, Aramis, Treville, OCs – GEN
Rating: PG-13
Words: 70,484
Disclaimer: Nothing you recognize is mine. Including the odd movie line; I tend to work familiar quotes in where I can.

Summary: Set mid-Season 2, after episode 6, Through a Glass Darkly. Out of favor with the King, Treville and d'Artagnan are assigned to transport two prisoners from Paris to Soissons. When their party is ambushed and they are taken prisoner, Rochefort grounds the Musketeers and sends the Red Guard after the prisoners under the guise of protecting the King. But the Inseparables mount their own, dangerous rescue mission, brotherhood holding more importance than a doomed outcome.

“We’d ride through fire for you, Captain, but…,” Porthos tipped his head toward the Gascon sleeping across from him, “we’d burn the world down for that one.”

Author’s Note: I've taken a bit of artistic liberty with the setting of this story. While I work to remain entrenched in canon, there are times my ideas complicate that effort. Therefore, I ask you to buy in on two adjustments to our show for the sake of this story: 1) Constance and d'Artagnan's public display of affection at the bottom of the hill after all were rescued from Marmion was simple and short-lived, and 2) the King did not retreat into his Rochefort-protected solitude immediately upon returning to the palace (as it appeared between episodes 6 and 7).

Also, one of my favorite things about writing in this fandom is that each of the four main characters gives us so many layers to work with. Individually, they could each hold their own novel-length story, but when the four are combined it's like sparking a powder keg. Though the focus of this story is d'Artagnan, I've attempted to place each man in the spotlight as the plot unfolds. Lastly, I've pulled some Musketeers I created for my previous stories into this one to keep things a bit consistent. If you read, I hope you enjoy.

Many thanks to thruterryseyes for the sanity check. She knows all the skeletons in my closets. pandi19, this one is for you. Happy Birthday, my friend.

PSA for Supernatural Fanfic Friends: I am writing an 'original' SPN story (i.e., not an episode tag or missing scene) called "The Cave." It's a one or two shot at best, but...for those of you who don't read my other stories and have told me you followed me for SPN, I wanted you to know.

Hey gurl

Awesome to see you are writing a little SPN story ... can't wait. Also just saw you are on Ao3, hopefully you are planning to putting your SPN fics on ... pretty please :)

I've posted all of my Musketeer stories (there are 6) and Daredevil stories (2) on AO3, but I haven't posted my SPN stories there as there are so many...I've selfishly not wanted to spend the time. I did post a couple of missing scenes from last season, but they didn't get much traffic, so I pulled them down.

I will definitely post the SPN story here and on FF.net; I'll have a think about AO3.

Hope you enjoy reading when it's ready! :)

The outline is all written, I just have to bring it to life and not get sidelined by writing reviews and all that. :)

The Cave
So Gaelic,
It's been a long time since I've posted but wanted to no I have been reading all your rambles and am finding them to be as good of a read as ever. I recently found the whole Virtual Seasons of SPN and have through all of am at episode 10, season 4. That's was a lot of good/ creative/odd storming telling down there. I loved when y'all just decided to go with your story lines and not try to stack things neatly within Kripke's verse! I've not been able to watch yet this new year but will catch up as soon as I get back to Boulder at the end of the month.

I just read that you are writing The Cave, I am so psyched!! We have spoken about this as a maybe someday kinda of thing. Absolutely no one writes h/c like you do my friend! Bless your heart! Just as a note the Denver con was a blast. Perhaps the next time you make your way through CO we can meet and I'll show you the lovely pic of my little friend, Jensen, Jared and me. My hubs doesn't like me to drag it out and show anyone, but if someone specifically asks...........

We have another week in Maui then back to the high country for winter weather. Hope you have a fantastic weekend and GO BRONCOS. P.s. I also told that to the J's back in November and they nicely agreed "as long as they aren't playing the Cowboys" is what Jensen replied.

Re: The Cave
Hi there --

I'm so pleased to hear you enjoy reading the Rambles! :)

Ah, the Virtual Seasons -- that's a blast from the past. I only had 3 of my own and 1 co-written with a friend. One of the reasons I left was because of the direction of that storyline. I wasn't one of the decision-makers there -- more of a MotW writer. They kinda lost me so I bowed out.

I am starting The Cave. :) I have the outline drafted, so it's just a matter of bringing it to life. I may get a start on that while stranded at the airport today.

Have a wonderful time in Maui and I look forward to any opportunity that allows us to catch up. :)
